Donald Trump Defeats Kamala Harris in U.S. Presidential Election; PM Modi Congratulates Him on Victory
In a major political shift, Republican candidate Donald Trump defeated Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election. Trump secured 277 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed, while Harris received 224 votes. Leaders worldwide are sending congratulations, including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Prime Minister Modi shared news of his conversation with Trump on X, formerly known as Twitter. Modi wrote, “Had a very good conversation with my friend, President Donald Trump, and congratulated him on his great victory. I am looking forward to working together once again to strengthen India-US relations in technology, defense, energy, space, and many other areas.”
During their conversation, Trump expressed high regard for Modi, calling him a respected leader globally. Trump added that India and PM Modi are close allies, mentioning that Modi was among the first world leaders he spoke to after his victory.
Earlier, PM Modi also posted on X, congratulating Trump on his “historic election victory.” Modi expressed hope for expanding the India-U.S. partnership across multiple sectors, aiming to boost cooperation for global peace and prosperity.
