Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday, following the latter’s pacemaker implantation surgery at a private hospital in Bengaluru.
PM Modi wished him a speedy recovery, saying, “Spoke to Kharge Ji. Enquired about his health and wished him a speedy recovery. Praying for his continued well-being and long life.”
Mallikarjun Kharge successfully underwent the planned procedure on Wednesday. His family confirmed that he is stable and expected to resume work on October 3.
Doctors described the pacemaker implantation as a short and minor procedure, and Kharge has steadily improved since the surgery.
Priyank Kharge, Minister for RDPR, IT, and BT and son of Mallikarjun Kharge, issued a media statement assuring the public of his father’s health.
Taking to social media, he wrote, “Medical Update : The pacemaker implantation procedure for Sri. Kharge was successfully completed earlier today. It was a short and minor procedure and he has been stable after the procedure. He is expected to resume his work from October 3 and attend all his scheduled engagements. Our gratitude for the concern, support and affection extended by all.”
The Congress chief was advised to undergo pacemaker implantation following symptoms of fever, fatigue, and leg pain.
He is currently receiving treatment at MS Ramaiah Hospital in Bengaluru. Kharge’s fatigue and breathing issues during the Bihar election campaign prompted his hospital admission.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited Kharge at the hospital on Wednesday, enquiring about his health and wishing him a quick recovery.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister noted that Kharge had come for a routine check-up due to minor uneasiness and was now recovering well.
Despite his health concerns, Mallikarjun Kharge has continued to participate actively in the Bihar Assembly elections, campaigning and voicing criticism of the BJP and Prime Minister Modi.
He recently warned voters about attempts at ‘vote theft’ and urged vigilance to protect electoral rights.
Kharge will resume his official engagements and continue his leadership duties in the Congress party with guidance from doctors and support from his family and political colleagues.
PM Modi’s gesture underscores the importance of goodwill and concern beyond political differences.
