PM Modi Sees Northeast As Gateway To $200 Billion Trade With ASEAN

PM Narendra Modi on Friday said India’s trade with ASEAN countries, currently around $125 billion, is poised to exceed $200 billion soon, with the northeast states playing a pivotal role as a strategic trade bridge to Southeast Asian markets.

He made these remarks while inaugurating the Rising North East Investors Summit.

PM Highlights Northeast’s Efforts To Strengthen Connectivity

PM Modi highlighted the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, which will provide direct access from Myanmar to Thailand.

This highway will boost India’s connectivity with Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos, facilitating smoother trade and regional cooperation.

The Prime Minister stressed the government’s efforts to fast-track the Kaladan Multimodal Transit Project, linking Kolkata Port with Myanmar’s Sittwe Port through Mizoram.

This project will reduce travel distance between West Bengal and Mizoram, thereby enhancing trade and industrial growth in the region.

PM Modi pointed out the ongoing development of Guwahati, Imphal, and Agartala as Multi-Modal Logistics Hubs.

He also noted the establishment of Land Custom Stations in Meghalaya and Mizoram, which are expanding international trade opportunities and positioning the northeast as a rising force in trade with Indo-Pacific countries.

PM Modi Highlights Northeast’s Potential In ‘Heal in India’ Mission

The Prime Minister highlighted the northeast’s rich biodiversity, natural environment, and organic lifestyle, describing the region as an ideal destination for wellness tourism.

He urged investors to tap into the region’s potential as a key part of the government’s ‘Heal in India’ initiative.

PM Modi announced major hydropower and solar projects in the northeast, with thousands of crores approved.

He highlighted the region’s potential in manufacturing solar components and research to boost self-sufficiency and cut imports.

Assam To Lead India’s Semiconductor Growth

PM Modi announced the first ‘Made in India’ chip from a northeast semiconductor plant, highlighting Assam’s key role in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

This milestone will unlock advanced technology opportunities and cement the region’s place in India’s high-tech industrial landscape.
