PM Modi Says Operation Sindoor Showed India’s Strong Stand Against Terrorism

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian armed forces for their role in Operation Sindoor. He described the military action as a strong and decisive response to the Pahalgam terror attack carried out last year.

As the country observed one year since the operation, PM Modi said the armed forces had demonstrated exceptional bravery, coordination and preparedness while targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour.”

“Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces. At the same time, it showcased the growing jointness among our forces and underlined the strength that India’s quest for self-reliance in the defence sector has brought to our national security,” the post read.

PM Modi further added, “Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem.”

In another post, the Prime Minister said Indians should take pride in the courage and patriotism shown by the armed forces during the operation. He called the mission an example of dedication and determination by the country’s soldiers.

To mark the anniversary, the Prime Minister also updated his profile picture on X with an image featuring the words ‘Operation Sindoor’ alongside the Indian Tricolour. Several other political leaders adopted similar display pictures on social media.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 6 and 7 last year following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians in the attack.

The Resistance Front, considered an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, had claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to reports, the attackers allegedly identified victims based on religion and forced them to recite the Islamic ‘kalima’ before targeting non-Muslims. Those killed included 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator who reportedly tried to rescue them.

Several victims had recently married, while terrorists shot many people in front of their family members.

Indian armed forces later carried out strikes on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The targets were described as high-value sites.

The government had characterised the operation as focused, restrained and non-escalatory.

Officials said the military action combined strategic, diplomatic and defence measures aimed at neutralising terror threats and preventing further attacks. They added that the operation maintained strategic restraint.
