PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) focuses on character development to strengthen nation-building, inspiring individuals to move from ‘I’ to ‘We’.
Addressing the centenary celebrations at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi, PM Modi said, “The way human communities live on the banks of a river, just like that, many lives have flourished with the stream of Sangh. Sangh has touched on every aspect of this country.”
He highlighted that all RSS sub-organisations work together under one purpose, ‘Rashtriya Pratham’ (Nation First), and that no two sub-organisations contradict or conflict with each other.
PM Modi stressed that the RSS adopted a ‘strong resolve of national building’ by focusing on individual development.
“To achieve this resolve, Sangh chose a journey from individual development to national development. Hedgewar ji knew our nation would become empowered only when every citizen developed a sense of responsibility toward the nation. That is why he always focused on individuals’ development,” the Prime Minister said.
He described the Sangh as ‘an organisation of inspiration, from where the journey of a volunteer from ‘I’ to ‘We’ begins’.
The Prime Minister noted that RSS shakhas continue to serve as ‘sacred platforms for character development’.
“Within these shakhas, an individual undergoes physical, mental, and social growth. A strong sense of national service and courage steadily blossoms in the hearts of swayamsevaks. The great aim of nation development, a clear path of character development, and the simple work of Shakha have become the foundation of Sangh,” he said.
PM Modi paid homage to Dr Hedgewar and the RSS’s role in the independence movement.
“During the freedom struggle, Dr Hedgewar and many Sangh workers actively participated. Dr Hedgewar himself was imprisoned in Nagpur Jail. The Sangh supported numerous freedom fighters, standing shoulder to shoulder with them in their struggle,” he said.
The Prime Minister recalled that the RSS faced repeated conspiracies to weaken it but remained resilient.
PM Modi added that the Sangh has faced attacks and conspiracies, and even after Independence, people tried to crush the organisation and block its entry into the mainstream.
Despite being falsely implicated and imprisoned, Guruji spoke with remarkable composure, leaving words that inspire generations. The Swayamsevaks never heeded acrimony, no matter how many conspiracies targeted the Sangh.
