PM Modi Remembers ‘Punjab Kesari’ Lala Lajpat Rai, Calls Him An Eternal Inspiration On Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday led nationwide tributes to renowned freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his birth anniversary, remembering him as an immortal figure whose dedication to the motherland continues to inspire India.

Sharing a message on X, PM Modi said, “To the immortal son of the motherland, Punjab Kesari Lala Lajpat Rai, heartfelt and respectful tributes on his birth anniversary. He offered everything he had to liberate Mother Bharati from the chains of slavery. His life of sacrifice will continue to remain a source of inspiration for every generation of the country.”

In a video address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Lala Lajpat Rai as one of the most influential leaders of India’s independence movement. He said that Rai worked tirelessly for the country’s liberation.

He remarked that Lalaji’s personality extended well beyond protests and resistance, highlighting his far-sighted vision for India’s future.

PM Modi underlined Rai’s role in building strong national institutions, including his involvement in the founding of Punjab National Bank. He added that Lalaji firmly believed political freedom must go hand in hand with economic self-reliance. National development, he said, was a central pillar of his philosophy.

Tributes from National Leaders

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also honoured Lala Lajpat Rai, stating, “Lala Lajpat Rai Ji sacrificed his life for India’s independence. His sacrifice wove the fragmented freedom movement into a single thread of unity, transforming it into a blazing inferno. He became the inspiration for armed revolution for countless revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh. To him, millions upon millions of salutations.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari paid his respects to the great leader, acknowledging him as the iconic ‘Punjab Kesari’. “On the birth anniversary of the great freedom fighter ‘Punjab Kesari’ Lala Lajpat Rai ji, I offer my humble salutations to him,” he wrote on X.

JP Nadda described Lala Lajpat Rai as the Lion of Punjab. He said that Rai’s nationalist ideas awakened political consciousness among India’s youth and reshaped the course of the freedom struggle.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remembered the freedom fighter as a committed social reformer and a strong advocate of Swadeshi. He praised Lala Lajpat Rai’s courage, patriotism, and lifelong dedication to the nation.

Fondly known as ‘Punjab Kesari’, Lala Lajpat Rai remains a towering symbol of India’s freedom movement. His fearless resistance to colonial rule remains a defining part of his legacy. His vision of a strong and self-reliant nation continues to inspire every Indian.
