PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Unwavering Support For Mauritius’ Development Priorities & Partnership

Prime Minister PM Modi met his Mauritian counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

The leaders reviewed the principal pillars of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership.

Both leaders examined progress under the Special Economic Package.

PM Modi reiterated India’s steadfast commitment to Mauritius’ development priorities under Vision MAHASAGAR and the Neighbourhood First approach.

He stressed that India will continue to prioritise infrastructure, jobs and health investment.

The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement confirming that both sides pledged closer cooperation in harnessing emerging technologies.

They agreed to deepen linkages in areas that foster shared prosperity and regional resilience.

Strengthening Strategic Maritime Partnership

Ramgoolam noted this meeting followed recent exchanges in Mauritius and Varanasi, underscoring steady diplomatic engagement.

He described his third encounter with Prime Minister Modi in recent times as further proof of strengthening ties.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius extended thanks for India’s warm hospitality and cooperation.

PM Modi recalled a prior phone call during which both leaders reviewed ongoing collaboration ahead of this summit.

He reaffirmed India’s role as a trusted partner in the Indian Ocean region and reiterated support for Mauritius’ development agenda.

Officials highlighted that the Special Economic Package aims to strengthen infrastructure, create employment and bolster healthcare capacity.

PM Modi said India will tailor assistance to Mauritius’ expressed needs and priorities. He emphasised practical measures and timely implementation.

The leaders also discussed technology partnerships, skills development and sectoral cooperation that will spur innovation.

Delegations agreed to pursue concrete projects and regular review mechanisms.

Observers said the meetings reflect India’s enduring ties with the island nation and its strategic significance within the Global South.

Mauritius remains central to India’s regional vision and maritime cooperation.

The visit consolidates earlier commitments made during Prime Minister Modi’s March 2025 visit and the State Visit by Ramgoolam in September 2025.

Both governments resolved to fast-track initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for their peoples and the wider region.
