PM Modi Reaffirms India’s Commitment To Remain Seychelles’ Trusted & Reliable Partner

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to remain a reliable and long-term partner in Seychelles’ national development agenda during high-level talks in New Delhi on Monday.

Seychelles President Patrick Herminie acknowledged India’s consistent support for the island nation’s development, security, and growth priorities.

President Herminie highlighted India’s assistance through Lines of Credit, grants, capacity-building initiatives, and High Impact Community Development Projects. He described India as a dependable partner that has supported Seychelles’ aspirations at both national and community levels.

During their wide-ranging discussions, PM Modi and President Herminie agreed to deepen cooperation across the full spectrum of bilateral relations.

The leaders placed special emphasis on digital transformation. India agreed to support Seychelles in building Digital Public Infrastructure, including digital payments, to modernise governance and improve service delivery.

As outlined in the Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL), PM Modi reiterated India’s commitment to Seychelles’ development priorities.

The focus areas include sustainability, maritime security, defence cooperation, capacity building, resilience, and inclusive growth.

India announced a Special Economic Package of USD 175 million to strengthen people-centric development cooperation.

The package includes USD 125 million as a rupee-denominated Line of Credit and USD 50 million as grant assistance.

The funding will support development projects, civilian and defence training, and maritime security initiatives.

President Herminie thanked PM Modi for India’s donation of 10 ambulances to Seychelles. The two leaders agreed that recognising the Indian Pharmacopoeia would simplify the procurement of quality-assured medicines.

This step will also expand access to affordable drugs through collaboration with India’s Jan Aushadhi programme.

Both leaders agreed to strengthen public health cooperation. They endorsed training programmes, exchange visits, and institutional partnerships in mental health.

India will support the recruitment and deputation of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and technicians to meet Seychelles’ healthcare needs.

The leaders also agreed to jointly support the construction of a new hospital in Seychelles.

The discussions also covered renewable energy and climate resilience. President Herminie acknowledged India’s role in helping Seychelles advance its renewable energy goals. He noted that solar projects implemented under the International Solar Alliance have delivered tangible benefits, particularly in agriculture and healthcare.

India agreed to provide technical assistance for power grid management and support Seychelles’ transition to green public transport.

PM Modi and President Herminie agreed to explore new cooperation in energy efficiency, clean energy, sustainability, and green mobility to meet Seychelles’ evolving needs.
