PM Modi, President Macron Commence Bilateral Strategic Talks In Mumbai

Narendra Modi and Emmanuel Macron commenced high-level bilateral discussions at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The meeting marked a key engagement during the French President’s official visit to India.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior officials attended the deliberations.

Both leaders exchanged warm greetings before proceeding to formal talks.

Prime Minister Modi noted on X that he was pleased to meet President Macron in Mumbai.

He remarked that the French leader appreciated the city and enjoyed a morning run.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders are conducting a comprehensive review of progress under the India-France Strategic Partnership.

They are examining avenues to reinforce cooperation and expand engagement into emerging and future-oriented domains.

Discussions also cover pressing regional and global developments.

Later in the day, the two leaders will jointly inaugurate the ‘India–France Year of Innovation 2026’.

They will address business executives, start-up founders, researchers and innovators from both nations.

The initiative seeks to accelerate technological collaboration and industrial partnerships.

President Macron earlier paid homage to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, including two French nationals.

France reaffirmed its unequivocal condemnation of terrorism and expressed solidarity with India in combating the threat.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed President Macron upon his arrival and voiced confidence that stronger bilateral ties would advance global progress.

The French delegation includes First Lady Brigitte Macron. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Governor Acharya Devvrat received the President at Mumbai airport.

President Macron’s visit follows Prime Minister Modi’s trip to France in February 2025.

This marks his fourth visit to India and his first official engagement in Mumbai.

The exchange underscores the depth of mutual trust and the shared resolve to elevate the strategic partnership further.
