PM Modi Presents Traditional Indian Gifts To UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in India on Sunday, January 19, 2026, landing in New Delhi at 4:30 PM.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally went to the airport to welcome him. The gesture underscored the warmth and closeness of ties between the two nations.

The two leaders greeted each other with a handshake. They also shared a warm embrace, reflecting the strong bond and mutual respect they share.

Prime Minister Modi later wrote on X that he was delighted to welcome his ‘brother’, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, at the airport, describing the visit as a reflection of the enduring friendship between India and the UAE.

From the airport, the Prime Minister accompanied the UAE President directly to his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg.

PM Modi hosted Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and his family for a brief but special meeting marked by cultural symbolism and traditional hospitality.

Traditional Indian Gifts Presented

During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi presented the UAE President with carefully selected traditional Indian gifts.

The centrepiece was an exquisitely carved wooden jhula (swing) from Gujarat, featuring intricate floral and traditional motifs.

In Gujarati culture, the jhula symbolises family unity, conversation, and bonds across generations. The gift also resonated with the UAE’s declaration of 2026 as the ‘Year of Family’.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was also gifted a handcrafted Kashmiri pashmina shawl, made from fine wool and known for its softness, warmth, and elegance. The shawl was placed in a silver box showcasing Telangana’s metal craftsmanship. Both gifts highlighted India’s rich handloom and handicraft heritage.

Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi was presented with a pashmina shawl and premium Kashmiri saffron, both housed in elegant silver boxes. Kashmiri saffron is renowned for its deep red colour and strong aroma.

The visit further strengthens India–UAE relations, which continue to expand across trade, energy, defence, and technology.

The personal gestures and warm exchanges reflected the deep friendship between the two leaders. They also marked another meaningful chapter in bilateral ties.
