PM Modi Praises Harivansh Narayan Singh On Rajya Sabha Nomination

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded veteran journalist-turned-politician Harivansh Narayan Singh after President Droupadi Murmu nominated him to the Rajya Sabha. He said Singh had made ‘invaluable’ contributions to both journalism and public life.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Shri Harivansh Ji has made invaluable contributions to journalism and public life. He is a respected intellectual and thinker. With his profound thoughts and insights, he has enriched the proceedings of the House over the past few years. I am delighted that the Honourable President has nominated him to the Rajya Sabha. My very best wishes to him for the upcoming parliamentary term!”

The renomination comes immediately after his previous term in the Upper House concluded on April 9, ending uncertainty about his continuation in parliamentary roles.

Harivansh Narayan Singh is likely to begin his third term in the Rajya Sabha. He first entered the House in 2014, representing Bihar and later rose to the position of Deputy Chairman in 2018, securing another term in that role in 2020.

During his time in Parliament, he has built a reputation for maintaining order and balance, particularly during heated debates, often encouraging dialogue across party lines.

Before joining politics, Harivansh Narayan Singh had an extensive career in journalism, working with a regional publication where he focused on issues related to rural communities and social development, gaining credibility as a balanced and dependable voice.

His experience in journalism continues to reflect in his parliamentary conduct, where he has consistently emphasised discussion, neutrality and a structured approach to proceedings.
