PM Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Thursday to mark World Environment Day.
The sapling was a gift from a group of women known as ‘Viranganas’, who had shown exceptional courage during the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
During his visit to Bhuj on May 26, PM Modi met 13 surviving women who had helped rebuild the bombed Bhuj airstrip in just 72 hours, enabling India to carry out air strikes.
The women, hailed as national heroes, gifted the saplings to the Prime Minister as a symbol of resilience and growth.
PM Modi had pledged to plant the Sindoor saplings at his residence.
On Thursday, he fulfilled that promise by planting one of them, paying tribute to the women’s bravery and contribution.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended greetings on the occasion of World Environment Day, urging citizens to step up their efforts in protecting the planet.
Taking to X, Prime Minister posted, “This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let’s deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”
PM Modi will plant another sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park in Delhi as part of the Environment Day celebrations.
The event ties into the second phase of the nationwide campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam Par 2.0’, which aims to plant 10 crore trees between June 5 and September 30.
The initiative not only supports environmental conservation but also symbolises gratitude towards motherhood and the motherland.
