Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid homage to Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji on the occasion of Veer Baal Diwas. He emphasized their bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to their principles, calling their story a guiding light for building a more compassionate and just society.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Today, on Veer Baal Diwas, we remember the unparalleled bravery and sacrifice of the Sahibzadas. At a young age, they stood firm in their faith and principles, inspiring generations with their courage. Their sacrifice is a shining example of valour and a commitment to one’s values. We also remember the bravery of Mata Gujri Ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. May they always guide us towards building a more just and compassionate society.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the Sahibzadas’ steadfastness in the face of adversity and the inspiration their story continues to provide.
PM Modi announced Veer Baal Diwas on January 9, 2022, to honor the martyrdom of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s sons, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, who sacrificed their lives in 1704. Since then, the nation has commemorated the day annually on December 26, organizing programs across the country to celebrate the courage and sacrifices of the Sahibzadas.
During a fierce war with the Mughals, Guru Gobind Singh’s family became separated. Mughal forces captured the young Sahibzadas and offered them safety if they agreed to convert to Islam. They stood firm in their faith, rejecting the offer. As a result, the Mughals sentenced them to death and bricked them alive in Sirhind, Punjab, cementing their legacy as symbols of unwavering courage and commitment to their principles. Their martyrdom has become a symbol of unwavering faith and courage.
On Thursday, PM Modi will participate in Veer Baal Diwas celebrations at Bharat Mandap in New Delhi. The event, starting in the afternoon, will spotlight the role of children as the foundation of India’s future.

Veer Baal Diwas is a solemn reminder of the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s four sons. It reflects the Sikh ideals of faith, resilience, and sacrifice, and reinforces the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh.
