PM Modi Pays Tribute To Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur At His Birthplace In Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid homage to Bharat Ratna Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur during a visit to his birthplace, Karpoori Gram, in Bihar.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Prime Minister laid floral tributes at Thakur’s statue and visited the Karpoori Thakur Library, where he viewed a collection of rare photographs chronicling key moments from the late leader’s life, from his role in the freedom movement and his resistance during the Emergency to his two terms as Bihar’s Chief Minister.

During his visit, PM Modi also interacted with Karpoori Thakur’s family members and local folk artists, posing for photographs and applauding their performances.

Villagers of Karpoori Gram extended a warm welcome to both leaders, expressing enthusiasm and pride over the visit.

Karpoori Thakur, a two-time Chief Minister, was known for his humility, honesty, and unwavering dedication to social equality.

A prominent voice for the marginalised, he worked closely with Jayaprakash Narayan during the Emergency, advocating for democracy and justice.

Key Highlights from PM Modi’s Address

Following his visit, the Prime Minister addressed a public gathering, describing the occasion as deeply meaningful.

“Today is a very important day in my life. Before coming here, I went to Karpoori Gram, where I had the opportunity to pay my respects to Bharat Ratna Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur. It is his blessings that people like us, who come from backward and poor families, are standing on this platform today,” PM Modi stated.

Commending Thakur’s contributions to the cause of social justice, PM Modi added, “Bharat Ratna Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur played a very significant role in bringing social justice to independent India and connecting the poor and underprivileged with new opportunities. Our government had the honour of awarding him the Bharat Ratna, a moment of great pride for all of us. He remains a source of inspiration for our government.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, the Prime Minister said his government has prioritised empowerment of the poor, Dalits, backward classes, and economically weaker sections.

“We have worked with the resolve to empower the poor, Dalits, Mahadalits, backward and extremely backward classes. Our government provided 10 per cent reservation for the economically weaker sections of the general category and extended the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for another 10 years,” he noted.

The visit to Karpoori Gram coincides with the ongoing Bihar Assembly election campaign, underscoring the NDA’s focus on social empowerment and equality, principles deeply rooted in Karpoori Thakur’s enduring legacy.
