Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his birthday wishes to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. He lauded Sangma’s efforts to meet the aspirations of the state’s people.
Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Birthday wishes to Meghalaya Chief Minister Shri Conrad Sangma Ji. His efforts to fulfil the aspirations of Meghayala’s people are noteworthy. I pray for his long life and good health.”
Several other prominent leaders joined in sending greetings. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath wished Sangma strength and good health. He also hoped for Sangma’s success in leading Meghalaya towards growth and prosperity.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted Sangma’s role in steering the state to new heights of development. He invoked blessings for Sangma’s long life and well-being.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also conveyed their warm wishes. He praised Sangma’s leadership and his dedicated service to the nation.
Conrad Sangma, son of former Meghalaya Chief Minister PA Sangma, entered politics after completing his studies. He earned a bachelor’s in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance from Imperial College London.
He contested the 2004 Meghalaya Assembly elections, narrowly losing by 182 votes, and won a seat in 2008 alongside his brother.
After his father passed away in 2016, Sangma became president of the National People’s Party (NPP) and was later elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from Tura.
Sangma served as Leader of the Opposition in Meghalaya’s eighth Legislative Assembly, represented the Selsella constituency, and became the state’s youngest Finance Minister in 2008. He also led the Nationalist Youth Congress, building a strong political profile.
At 43, Sangma continues to lead Meghalaya, focusing on development and progress while upholding his family’s political legacy. Leaders across India celebrated his contributions, recognising his vision and dedication to public service.
