PM Modi Mourns School Roof Collapse In Rajasthan; Offers Condolences

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic roof collapse at a government school in Piplodi village, Jhalawar district, Rajasthan, which claimed the lives of at least four children and left several others injured.

The incident has left the nation shaken, with rescue operations and investigations now underway.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) conveyed PM Modi’s message, “The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected: PM @narendramodi“

Though currently on an official visit to the Maldives, PM Modi responded swiftly, assuring support to the victims and their families.

Roof Collapse During School Hours

The devastating collapse occurred at the Government Higher Primary School in Piplodi village, located in the Manoharthana area of Jhalawar.

The school was functioning in an old and dilapidated building, and the roof collapsed during regular school hours.

According to eyewitnesses, over 50 students were in their classrooms when the roof suddenly gave way, likely due to persistent heavy rainfall in recent days.

Panic ensued as the structure caved in, creating a cloud of dust and debris. Local villagers and school staff acted without delay, using bare hands and tools to remove rubble and rescue children trapped beneath.

Rescue teams and local residents initially transported the injured students to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Manoharthana, using private vehicles due to the urgency of the situation.

State authorities are ensuring all necessary medical support.

State Leadership Reacts

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed deep grief over the tragedy.

In his social media statement, he wrote, “The tragic incident caused by the collapse of a school roof in Piplodi, Jhalawar, is extremely painful and heartbreaking. Instructions have been given to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured children.”

He also extended his condolences to the bereaved families, praying for peace and strength in their time of loss.

State Education Minister Madan Dilawar announced a high-level inquiry into the incident.

He said, “I have given strict orders to ensure the best medical treatment for students. Also, I am issuing orders to get the matter investigated to know why this tragic accident happened.”

District officials have reached the site, and formal investigations are underway.

The incident has raised serious concerns over infrastructure safety in government schools, particularly those operating in older buildings.

As the community mourns the loss, there are growing demands for urgent review and reinforcement of school facilities across the region.

As rescue and recovery efforts continue, the nation stands united in grief.
