PM Modi Meets Seychelles President Patrick Herminie; Bilateral Talks Held In Delhi

On Monday, PM Modi met Seychelles President Patrick Herminie at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where the two leaders held delegation-level talks and reviewed key aspects of bilateral cooperation.

Earlier in the day, President Herminie, who is on a State visit to India, paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the visit in a post on X, stating, “Honouring Bapu’s enduring legacy and universal ideals. President Dr. Patrick Herminie of Seychelles paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Gandhiji’s enduring principles continues to guide and inspire India-Seychelles partnership.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also called on President Herminie and appreciated his support for advancing Vision MAHASAGAR, which aims to promote economic prosperity and security in the maritime region.

After the meeting, Jaishankar wrote on X, “Delighted to call on President Dr. Patrick Herminie of the Republic of Seychelles today in Delhi. As maritime neighbours, value his support towards advancing #VisionMAHASAGAR for economic prosperity and security in the region. Confident that his engagements with PM @narendramodi later today will open new vistas for our cooperation.”

Arrival in Delhi After Chennai, Mumbai Visits

President Herminie arrived in New Delhi on Sunday after completing engagements in Chennai and Mumbai and was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport.

In another post, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said President Herminie had productive interactions in Chennai and Mumbai with stakeholders across governance, industry, coastal management and the health sector. Seychelles, he added, remains a key maritime neighbour and an important partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR and commitment to the Global South.

During his Mumbai visit, Herminie met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with discussions focusing on port-led development, coastal management and avenues for enhanced cooperation.

The Seychelles President attended the India–Seychelles Business Forum organised by FICCI in Chennai and highlighted priority sectors such as digital technologies, renewable energy, tourism, higher education and electric mobility.

President Herminie is on a five-day State visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
