PM Modi Meets Iranian Parliamentary Delegation At BRICS Forum

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor met Iranian parliamentary representatives on Monday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi.

The Iranian Embassy in India shared details of the interaction on X. It said the leaders received the Iranian representatives during courtesy calls. The meeting highlighted the importance of India-Iran bilateral relations.

The Iranian parliamentary delegation arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to attend the forum. Earlier on Monday, the delegation met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and held discussions with him.

The 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum brought together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries. The discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation and promoting people-centric development.

The event was attended by Union Ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, presiding officers of state legislatures, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla chaired the meeting and welcomed the visiting delegates. He stressed dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation among participating nations.

Birla said the presence of parliamentary delegations reflected a shared commitment to democratic values. He noted that the BRICS Parliamentary Forum marks its 20th anniversary this year.

The Speaker added that the organisation was expanding its reach and influence in global affairs.

The forum provided an opportunity for participating countries to strengthen ties and discuss shared challenges through parliamentary engagement.
