PM Modi Meets Iranian Foreign Minister At BRICS As West Asia Tensions Escalate

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held high-level discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the BRICS meeting amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

The meeting assumed significance as regional instability, energy concerns, and geopolitical divisions continued to intensify across the Middle East.

The interaction focused on regional security, multilateral cooperation, and the evolving geopolitical climate affecting global trade and energy routes.

India continues to maintain close diplomatic engagement with key regional stakeholders while advocating dialogue and stability.

During the BRICS deliberations, Araghchi urged member nations to strongly oppose violations of international law and called for collective action against rising hostilities in West Asia. He described BRICS as a growing platform representing the Global South and emphasised the need for stronger international coordination.

The talks took place as divisions within the BRICS grouping surfaced over the ongoing Iran conflict and broader regional tensions.

Diplomatic sources indicated that member nations remained divided on the language of any joint declaration concerning the crisis.

India has closely monitored developments because of concerns surrounding oil prices, maritime security, and disruption to strategic trade routes.

Officials continue to stress the importance of safeguarding economic stability and maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies.
