PM Modi, Liechtenstein Prince Alois Discuss Trade And Technology Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Liechtenstein’s Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Tuesday. Their talks focused on expanding cooperation across trade, investment, innovation, science and technology, skill development and people-to-people exchanges.

The leaders reiterated their support for reforming and strengthening multilateral institutions, including the United Nations. They welcomed the positive momentum created by the India-European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).

Prince Alois described the agreement, which entered into force a year ago, as a ‘significant milestone’ in bilateral relations. He expressed his country’s determination to build on the progress and expand economic engagement with India.

The visiting Prince identified innovation, advanced manufacturing, financial services, education and technology as areas offering considerable scope for collaboration. He said the complementary strengths of both countries could deliver long-term benefits.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Prince Alois to discuss bilateral relations and opportunities arising from the India-EFTA agreement. Jaishankar said the partnership was gaining momentum across several sectors.

Earlier, Prince Alois and Princess Sophie visited Rajghat to pay their respects to Mahatma Gandhi.

The Prince received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi welcomed him.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Prince Alois said he was honoured to visit India for Liechtenstein’s first state visit to the country. He described the occasion as evidence of the importance his nation attaches to bilateral relations.

Prince Alois was scheduled to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of State for Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary later in the day.

President Murmu was due to meet the visiting Prince and host an official banquet in his honour.
