PM Modi, Leaders Pay Tribute To Karpoori Thakur On Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary on Saturday, honouring the former Bihar Chief Minister for his lifelong dedication to public service and social justice.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister of Bihar, Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur Ji, I offer my humble salutations. The upliftment of the exploited, deprived, and weaker sections of society was always at the center of his politics.”

“For his simplicity and dedication to public service, he will forever remain memorable and exemplary,” the post further read.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute on social media. He noted that Thakur’s policies on reservations for deprived communities, women, and economically weaker sections set exemplary ideals of social justice.

Union Health Minister JP Nadda added, “The revered Karpoori Ji dedicated his entire life to fighting for the rights of Backwards Classes, Dalits, the poor, and farmers. His great ideals and struggles will forever inspire us to tread the path of justice, equality, and service.”

Thakur, popularly known as ‘Jan Nayak’, served as Bihar’s Chief Minister twice – from December 1970 to June 1971 and June 1977 to April 1979. He earned the title ‘Jan Nayak’ for his relentless work for the marginalised.

He also championed the backward classes, promoted education, and advocated prohibition policies in Bihar.

Karpoori Thakur implemented significant reservation policies, made education free up to Class 8, and enforced total prohibition in Bihar. His contributions, however, continue to inspire leaders and citizens alike, embodying the values of equality, simplicity, and service to society.
