Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended greetings to citizens on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepawali, celebrating India’s timeless spiritual and cultural traditions.

Taking to his social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Heartiest greetings of Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepavali to all family members across the country. May this divine occasion, connected to Indian culture and spirituality, bring happiness, peace, health, and prosperity to everyone. May our sacred tradition associated with holy baths, charity, aarti, and worship illuminate everyone’s life.”

His message further reflected the spiritual and cultural depth of Dev Deepawali, a festival symbolising the triumph of light over darkness and the divine descent of the Gods to Earth.

Leaders Join in Festive Greetings

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also conveyed his wishes on X, writing, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state and the country on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima. May this auspicious day bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to the state—this is our heartfelt wish.”

Furthermore, Union Minister Prahlad Joshi shared a similar message, saying, “On this auspicious Dev Deepawali, I extend my warm greetings to all. May the divine light of this sacred day dispel darkness and fill every life with peace, prosperity and spiritual joy.”

The exchange of greetings from national leaders reflected the festival’s profound resonance among people of all faiths and regions.

A Festival of Divine Illumination

Dev Deepawali, celebrated on Kartik Purnima, is one of Hinduism’s most revered festivals.

Also known as the Diwali of the Gods, devotees believe that on this day, the deities descend to Earth to celebrate the festival of lights.

The festival holds special significance in Varanasi, the sacred city of Lord Shiva, where devotees illuminate the Ganga ghats with millions of earthen lamps (diyas).

Furthermore, devotees begin the day with a holy dip in the Ganga, followed by prayers, offerings, and grand aarti ceremonies at dusk.

The ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar, and Rishikesh come alive with chants, hymns, and glowing lamps that transform the riverbanks into a divine spectacle.

In Varanasi, Dev Deepawali is celebrated on a majestic scale. From Dashashwamedh to Raj Ghat, the entire stretch of the Ganga shines with countless lamps, symbolising purity and spiritual enlightenment.

Priests also chant Vedic hymns as devotees float diyas upon the river, believing the sacred waters become even more sanctified on this night, capable of cleansing lifetimes of sins and karma.

This year’s celebrations once again showcased the unity of faith, devotion, and heritage that define India’s festivals, a living reflection of the nation’s spiritual vibrancy.

Moreover, PM Modi’s message resonated deeply with millions across the country, serving as a reminder of India’s enduring spiritual legacy.

As lights shimmered on the sacred riverbanks, his words encapsulated the essence of Dev Deepawali, a celebration of peace, generosity, and divine illumination guiding humanity towards goodness and harmony.
