PM Modi Joins Lohri And Pongal Celebrations; Highlights India’s Cultural Richness

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in Lohri celebrations at Naraina Vihar in Delhi on Monday. The festival, significant for Northern India, marks the end of winter and the harvest of Rabi crops. Families and friends gathered around bonfires, offering Lohri Mata traditional items like jaggery and popcorn.

Sharing his experience, PM Modi posted on X: “Lohri symbolises renewal and hope, closely tied to agriculture and our hardworking farmers. It was wonderful to celebrate with people from all walks of life.” He also shared affectionate moments with children, including selfies highlighting the festive spirit.

Later, PM Modi attended Pongal celebrations at Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s residence. He performed the Bhogi Agni ritual and engaged warmly with artists performing at the event. Sharing pictures online, the Prime Minister wrote: “Pongal celebrates gratitude, abundance, and renewal, rooted in India’s rich agricultural traditions. My best wishes for a prosperous harvest season.”

Reddy expressed gratitude for the Prime Minister’s presence, describing it as an honour. Prominent figures like badminton star PV Sindhu and actor Chiranjeevi also attended the event.

Pongal, dedicated to the Sun God, signifies the sun’s northward journey and the end of the winter solstice. The occasion includes preparing the sweet dish Pongal, offered first to deities and then shared with family.

Community Reactions To PM Modi’s Presence

Local residents and artists shared their joy over the Prime Minister’s participation. One artist noted, “It was a proud moment when he spoke about India’s culture and festivals.” Others expressed gratitude, likening his presence to that of a family member.

Both festivals highlighted India’s cultural diversity and the shared spirit of gratitude and celebration.
