PM Modi Invites Citizens To Join ‘Run For Unity’ On Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to take part in the Run for Unity event. The event takes place on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on 31 October to pay tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Join the Run for Unity on 31st October and celebrate the spirit of togetherness! Let’s honour Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India.”

This year marks the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

PM Modi also reposted a message from Ekta Diwas Bharat, appealing to people to participate in large numbers.

“Our diversity is India’s soul and Sardar Patel wove it into unity. PM Modi carries this vision forward. Celebrate his 150th birth anniversary, join the Run for Unity and strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat!” the post noted.

During his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Sardar Patel, known as the ‘Iron Man of India’, for his devotion to the nation’s freedom struggle. He expressed that India remains deeply indebted to Sardar Patel for his contributions as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister.

“The 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is a very special occasion for the entire country. Sardar Patel has been one of the greatest luminaries of the nation in modern times,” the Prime Minister stated.

Reflecting on Sardar Patel’s remarkable life, the Prime Minister described him as ‘an exceptionally brilliant student’ who excelled both in India and Britain. He further called Sardar Patel ‘one of the most successful lawyers of his time’.

He further added that Sardar Patel could have achieved even greater fame in law, but inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he devoted himself entirely to India’s independence movement.

“His contributions to numerous movements, from the ‘Kheda Satyagraha’ to the ‘Borsad Satyagraha’, are still remembered today. His tenure as the head of the Ahmedabad Municipality was also historic. He accorded top priority to cleanliness and good governance. We will all forever be indebted to him for his contributions as Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister,” PM Modi asserted.

The Prime Minister noted that Sardar Patel laid the foundation of India’s administrative framework. He further added that Sardar Patel made ‘unparalleled efforts for the unity and integrity’ of the nation.

Every year, India celebrates Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary with the Run for Unity. The event takes place across the country to promote fitness and to commemorate the Iron Man of India.

“I urge all of you to participate in the Run For Unity being organised across the country on October 31, Sardar Saheb’s birth anniversary, and not just participate alone, but along with others. This should become an opportunity for youth awakening; this run for unity will strengthen unity. This will be our true tribute to that great luminary who united India,” the Prime Minister urged.
