Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a garment manufacturing plant of Ahmedabad-based Arvind Limited in Varanasi’s Mirzamurad area on Sunday during his visit to his parliamentary constituency for a grand air show.
The facility, developed at an investment of Rs 150 crore across eight acres, is expected to strengthen employment opportunities and the textile sector in the Purvanchal region.
It currently employs around 1,000 people and plans to recruit another 1,000 in the near future, with priority given to local women.
Arvind Limited Vice Chairman Kulin Lalbhai told that the company completed the factory within two to three years.
He said the facility would employ more than 1,000 women, primarily from Varanasi, and export garments to international markets.
Lalbhai added that the plant would also create substantial indirect employment opportunities, supporting the regional economy.
The Prime Minister’s visit sparked excitement among women employees and trainees, several of whom described seeing him in person as an unforgettable experience.
Sandhya, a factory operator, expressed happiness at working there and meeting PM Modi. Vasav Daksh said the Prime Minister spoke to her about her tenure and whether she felt satisfied with the working environment.
Anjali described their face-to-face interaction as an experience she would cherish throughout her life.
Beenu Vishwakarma and Seema Kanojia also expressed happiness at seeing the Prime Minister, although neither had an opportunity to speak with him directly.
Kanojia explained that her work involves sewing-related tasks.
The facility manufactures a wide range of clothing, including T-shirts, shirts, jackets, trousers, sherwanis, men’s boxers and women’s leggings.
Established in Ahmedabad in 1931, the Arvind Group has built a strong presence in textiles.
Its product portfolio includes denim, cotton and linen fabrics, suiting materials, sportswear and specialised industrial textiles.
