PM Modi Inaugurates Ladakh Development Projects Worth ₹3,350 Crore; Boosts Connectivity & Water Security

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated five major development projects worth ₹3,350 crore in Ladakh on Thursday, marking a new phase in the Union Territory’s development.

The projects aim to improve connectivity, strengthen energy infrastructure, preserve cultural heritage and enhance water security.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said the initiatives would make travel easier, improve electricity facilities, increase water availability and strengthen the preservation of Ladakh’s ancient heritage.

He praised Zanskar residents for proudly waving the Tricolour despite snowfall.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the ₹640-crore passenger terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. The 23,800-square-metre terminal can handle 35 lakh passengers annually, up from the airport’s previous capacity of 10 lakh.

Its geothermal system will improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions.

PM Modi also dedicated the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, built by the Border Roads Organisation.

It connects Leh’s Nimmu with Darcha in Himachal Pradesh through Zanskar Valley, providing an alternative to the Srinagar-Leh and Manali-Leh highways.

To strengthen energy security and harness renewable energy, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 9 MW Hanu Small Hydroelectric Project and the 66 kV double-circuit Dah-Hanu-Khaltsi Transmission Line.

He also inaugurated India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park at Sindhu Ghat in Leh to protect ancient rock carvings and preserve the region’s archaeological heritage.

Under Project Him Sarovar, 40 water bodies developed across 40 villages will improve water conservation and availability. The initiative further addresses Ladakh’s geographical and climatic challenges and aligns with the objectives of Mission Amrit Sarovar.

The projects are expected to strengthen Ladakh’s infrastructure, improve essential services and support sustainable development in the strategically important Himalayan region.
