Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre (BBBRC) at Bhildi in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district and visited its Embryo Transfer Technology-In Vitro Fertilisation (ET-IVF) Laboratory. He interacted with women dairy farmers to discuss animal husbandry and dairy farming.
Spread across 127 acres, the centre will focus on cattle breeding, genetic improvement and reproductive technologies. It is India’s first facility dedicated to Gujarat’s indigenous Kankrej cattle breed.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, advanced breeding technologies at the centre could accelerate breed improvement by 10 to 20 times.
The facility aims to increase milk production per animal, improve cattle quality and conserve indigenous breeds.
Before the inauguration, PM Modi said the centre would help farmers increase milk yields, access better-quality cattle and improve their incomes. He added that dairy farmers across the country would benefit from the facility.
The inauguration forms part of PM Modi’s two-day Gujarat visit on October 30 and 31, during which he will launch or dedicate development projects worth more than Rs 14,000 crore in Banaskantha.
The projects include two Bio-CNG plants that Banas Dairy is developing at Tharad and Radhanpur.
The plants will process 75 metric tonnes and 100 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily, respectively.
PM Modi will release the 24th PM-KISAN instalment worth around Rs 19,000 crore and flag off two train services: Ahmedabad (Sabarmati)-Varanasi Express and Mehsana-Becharaji-Sabarmati MEMU.
Other projects include extending the Ahmedabad Metro towards the airport and GIFT City, widening the Ahmedabad-Mehsana Road and developing child-friendly Anganwadi centres.
Later, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Bharat Parv 2026 at Ekta Nagar.
On October 31, PM Modi will attend Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations marking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 151st birth anniversary.
