Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth over Rs 4,700 crore in Chandigarh, covering healthcare, education and road infrastructure.
The projects include the Advanced Neurosciences Centre and Advanced Mother and Child Centre at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), a multipurpose auditorium at Panjab University’s South Campus in Sector 25, and key road projects across the Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali tricity region.
Accompanied by Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated PGIMER’s 300-bed Advanced Mother and Child Centre, designed to provide tertiary care for high-risk pregnancies, critically ill newborns and children requiring specialised treatment. He also inaugurated the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, which will offer integrated neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-critical care and advanced diagnostic services under one roof.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a 150-bed Critical Care Block under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
In the education sector, PM Modi inaugurated the Kurukshetra Boys Hostel and Mess at Punjab Engineering College, a hostel block at Government College, Sector 46. He laid the foundation stone for a Research Scholars’ Hostel at Punjab Engineering College.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the six-lane Greenfield Highway connecting IT City to Kurali in Mohali district, aimed at reducing travel time between Mohali, Kharar and Kurali while improving connectivity with Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. He also laid the foundation stone for the 10.3-km PR-7 Spur of the Ambala-Chandigarh Greenfield Highway (NH-205A), which will enable long-distance traffic to bypass Zirakpur and provide direct connectivity to Aerocity near Chandigarh.
Following the Chandigarh programme, the Prime Minister will likely visit Jalandhar to launch projects worth Rs 5,470 crore after earlier unveiling the NaMo Green Rail hydrogen-powered train and projects worth Rs 14,700 crore in Haryana’s Jind.
