PM Modi Holds Security Meetings Amid Rising Tensions With Pakistan

In a significant escalation of national security deliberations, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for the second time in 48 hours.

The meetings come in the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives and has sharply heightened tensions with Pakistan.

The Prime Minister has convened a series of urgent meetings with senior defence leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

These consultations have reportedly focused on finalising India’s strategic response to the April 22 attack, the deadliest since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.

Pahalgam Attack Prompts Tough Military Posture

Responsibility for the Pahalgam assault was claimed by The Resistance Front, a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Indian intelligence sources maintain that the attack bears the clear imprint of Pakistan’s deep state, long accused of fuelling cross-border terrorism.

Following a critical security review last week, government sources revealed that Prime Minister Modi granted the Indian armed forces full operational autonomy empowering them to decide the timing, targets, and nature of any retaliatory strikes.

Preparations Underway For Unprecedented Security Drills

Coinciding with these high-level deliberations, the Home Ministry has directed nationwide mock security drills scheduled for Wednesday.

This will be the first such comprehensive civil defence exercise since the 1971 India-Pakistan war, underscoring the seriousness of current threat perceptions.

Air Chief Marshal AP Singh also met with the Prime Minister on Sunday, reinforcing the military’s high alert status.

That meeting, lasting 45 minutes, followed earlier discussions with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, held just a day prior.

Diplomatic And Strategic Measures Intensify

Meanwhile, India has begun rolling out a series of robust diplomatic and strategic measures aimed at isolating Pakistan.

These include revoking visas for Pakistani nationals, halting bilateral cultural and trade exchanges, deporting Pakistani citizens, and suspending the longstanding Indus Waters Treaty.

Additionally, the government has closed the Attari-Wagah land crossing and barred Pakistani commercial aircraft from Indian airspace, signalling a comprehensive crackdown.

Ceasefire Violations And Military Response

Tensions have further escalated with continuous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control. For 12 consecutive days, Pakistani posts have engaged in unprovoked firing.

The Indian Army has responded proportionately, maintaining a firm posture along the border.

In his first public statement since the attack, Prime Minister Modi declared, “The terrorists, their handlers, and their backers will be chased and hunted down to the ends of the earth.”

His words underline a clear message: India will respond with both resolve and force.
