PM Modi & HM Shah Greet People On Himachal Day As State Marks 78th Foundation Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended their warm greetings to the people of Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Himachal Day, which marks the formation of the state.

Himachal Pradesh, formed on 15 April 1948, created through the merger of over 30 princely states.

This year, the state is celebrating its 78th Foundation Day.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Many best wishes to all the people of the state on Himachal Day. My brothers and sisters of this state, renowned for its glorious culture, are known for their hard work, talent and valour. I wish that this special occasion brings happiness, prosperity, and health in the lives of all of you and also leads our Devbhoomi on the path of progress.”

“Heartiest greetings of Himachal Day to the residents of Devbhoomi Himachal Pradesh, a land of amazing natural beauty and living heritage of folk culture. The residents of this state, who embody a rich cultural heritage, showcase their hard work and kindness. I wish for the progress and prosperity of the people of the state,” Shah posted on X.

Main Celebrations In Remote Pangi Valley

This year, the main state-level celebrations took place in Killar, the headquarters of the remote Pangi Valley in Chamba district.

The event was, however, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu.

The state-level Himachal Day celebration took place for the first time in the Pangi Valley, generating great excitement among local residents.

Chief Minister Sukhu, in his address, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to progress, stating, “We all together will further strengthen our resolve to establish the state as a strong and self-reliant state.”

The occasion also featured vibrant cultural performances, showcasing the state’s diverse heritage.

The name ‘Himachal’ comes from the Sanskrit words ‘Hima’ (snow) and ‘Anchal’ (lap), reflecting the state’s mountainous terrain in the Himalayas.

Himachal Pradesh became a Chief Commissioner’s province on 15 April 1948, and people celebrate it every year as Himachal Day.

The state later became a Union Territory in 1956, before officially gaining full statehood in 1971, with Shimla as its capital.
