Addressing the 130th episode of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on a social media trend recalling 2016 and shared his own memory from ten years ago.
In January 2016, the government launched what seemed a modest initiative at the time but proved pivotal for the youth and the nation’s future – the Startup India programme.
The Prime Minister emphasised that while it may have appeared small, its significance for young Indians and the country’s growth trajectory was immense.
PM Modi described the heroes of this journey as the nation’s young entrepreneurs, whose innovations have now expanded into sectors that were unimaginable a decade ago, including artificial intelligence, space, nuclear energy, semiconductors, mobility solutions, green hydrogen, and biotechnology.
He saluted all young innovators, whether already leading startups or aspiring to establish one, highlighting their role in shaping India’s entrepreneurial landscape and global reputation.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of quality in India’s rapidly growing economy.
He stated that the era of ‘It happens, it’s fine’ must end, urging the nation to prioritise excellence across all sectors, from textiles and technology to electronics and packaging.
PM Modi reiterated that zero defect and zero effect must become the standard, ensuring that Indian products are synonymous with superior quality.
Through his address, PM Modi reinforced the government’s commitment to youth entrepreneurship, innovation, and high standards, positioning Indian startups as central to national growth and global competitiveness over the coming decade.
He encouraged the country’s youth to continue pushing boundaries, innovate boldly, and uphold the highest standards, affirming that their efforts will be instrumental in realising the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
