PM Modi Highlights New Momentum In India-Austria Relations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India and Austria will deepen their partnership across key sectors, including defence, semiconductors, quantum technology and biotechnology, as both countries aim to strengthen global supply chains and technological collaboration.

Addressing a joint press conference with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, PM Modi said the two nations will combine Austria’s expertise with India’s scale and speed to build reliable technology networks for the world. He noted that India and Austria have long partnered in infrastructure, innovation and sustainability, and highlighted projects such as the Delhi Metro and the Atal Tunnel, where Austrian expertise has played a key role.

Welcoming Chancellor Stocker, PM Modi said his visit marks a significant moment, noting that it is his first trip outside Europe and the first such visit to India in four decades. He added that the visit will inject fresh momentum into trade and investment ties, supported by a large business delegation.

The Prime Minister also announced initiatives to promote mobility in the nursing sector and enhance youth exchange through a new India–Austria Working Holiday Programme. He highlighted the potential of Indian talent to contribute to Austria’s innovation ecosystem.

Emphasising global challenges, PM Modi said both countries agree that military conflict cannot resolve issues and stressed the need for lasting peace, including in regions such as Ukraine and West Asia.

The Prime Minister also underlined the importance of reforming global institutions and reaffirmed a shared commitment to combating terrorism.

The visit is expected to usher in a new phase in India–Austria relations, strengthening cooperation across strategic and economic domains.
