Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, informing that over 2 crore women have already joined the programme, out of a target of 3 crore.
He expressed hope that Bihar women would take the lead and emerge as the largest contributors to this workforce.
Addressing thousands of women via video conferencing during the launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, PM Modi announced a direct transfer of ₹10,000 into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women beneficiaries.
PM Modi announced the launch of the ‘Chief Minister Women Employment’ scheme, stating that 75 lakh sisters have already joined and ₹10,000 has been directly deposited into each of their bank accounts.
He highlighted the impact of other central government schemes, including the Mudra scheme, Drone Didi campaign, Insurance Sakhi initiative, and Bank Didi campaign, which are creating employment and self-employment opportunities for women.
“The double engine government has only one goal – to fulfil your dreams,” he added.
PM Modi contrasted the current scenario with the previous RJD government in Bihar, referring to the period as one marked by lawlessness and suffering, especially for women.
“When the RJD government was in power in Bihar, it was the reign of the lantern, and during that time, the women of Bihar suffered the most from chaos and corruption,” he said.
He recalled the state of roads, bridges, and basic infrastructure under the former administration, emphasising how women faced the brunt of these hardships.
Highlighting the transformation in recent years, the Prime Minister noted that today, daughters are stepping out of their homes to pursue work, reflecting the government’s commitment to safeguarding women and promoting their empowerment.
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana also includes skill development and training, enabling women to acquire specialised expertise.
Additionally, the programme offers ‘Seed capital’, providing women with an extra ₹2 lakh if their enterprise progresses successfully.
More than 2 crore women are already participating in the Lakhpati Didi initiative, driving economic empowerment, creating self-employment opportunities, and strengthening women’s role in Bihar’s socio-economic development.
