PM Modi & Leaders Remember Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia On Birth Anniversary; Hails Her Political Legacy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes on Sunday to former Rajya Sabha member and veteran political leader Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia on her birth anniversary.

Remembered as a towering figure in Indian politics, she played a pivotal role in strengthening the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and later the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Born in 1919 in present-day Madhya Pradesh, Vijayaraje Scindia was the consort of the last ruling Maharaja of Gwalior, Jiwajirao Scindia.

A woman of remarkable courage and conviction, she transitioned from royalty to public life with an unwavering commitment to national service.

She won multiple elections to both Houses of Parliament over the decades and helped found the BJP.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote, “Tributes to Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Ji on her birth anniversary. Her efforts to serve society will never be forgotten. She played a key role in strengthening the Jana Sangh and the BJP. Vijayaraje Scindia Ji was passionate about our cultural roots and always worked to protect as well as popularise them.”

The Prime Minister also shared a video message highlighting her invaluable contributions during India’s freedom struggle and her influence in post-independence politics.

PM Modi described her as ‘an idol of affection, a decisive leader, and an efficient administrator’, noting that she ‘gave direction to the nation’ at a time of great transformation.

A Life Dedicated to Service

Reflecting on her life’s journey, PM Modi emphasised that Rajmata Scindia renounced comfort and privilege to dedicate herself entirely to the welfare of the people.

“She came from a royal family, was not short of wealth or power, but spent her entire life serving the people with motherly affection,” he said.

He added that the government remains committed to fulfilling its vision of a strong, secure, and self-reliant India through the mission of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

“Her dream was a strong, secure and progressive India. We will fulfil her dreams through the resolution of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Rajmata’s inspiration is with us,” PM Modi said.

Leaders Recall Her Contributions

Union Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also paid his respects, describing Rajmata Scindia as ‘the embodiment of affection and maternal love’.

He described her as a guiding light who dedicated her entire life to public welfare and worked to uplift the most marginalised in society.

Chouhan wrote, “The way you nurtured and strengthened the Jan Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh with a spirit of service and dedication is an inspiration for all of us workers.”

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav echoed the sentiment, calling Rajmata Scindia a ‘symbol of sacrifice, compassion, and dedication’.

He added that her contributions to shaping the Jana Sangh and the BJP with the sacred aim of national service will forever inspire future generations.

Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia’s life remains a testament to courage, conviction, and compassion — virtues that continue to guide India’s political ethos.
