On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the nation’s farmers, calling them the pride of the country, as he congratulated them on six successful years of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers, highlighting how the initiative has enhanced their financial stability and strengthened India’s agricultural sector.
The announcement precedes Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, where he will disburse over Rs 22,000 crore under the 19th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme.
This financial assistance, directly transferred via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, aims to ensure transparency and eliminate middlemen, allowing farmers to receive their rightful benefits without delays.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “We are proud of our Annadatas and our commitment to improve their lives is reflected in the efforts highlighted in the thread below.”
“In the last 10 years, due to our efforts, the agriculture sector in the country has developed rapidly. The financial help being provided to millions of our small farmers has increased their access to the market. Along with this, the cost of agriculture has reduced and their income has also increased,” the Prime Minister posted on social media.
“Many congratulations to our farmer brothers and sisters across the country on the completion of 6 years of PM-Kisan. It is a matter of immense satisfaction and pride for me that so far about three and a half lakh crore rupees have reached their accounts. This effort of ours is giving respect, prosperity and new strength to the food providers,” PM Modi further added.
Introduced in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme aims to support farmers financially, promoting stability and boosting crop production. Over time, it has significantly helped lower agricultural expenses and strengthen farmers’ financial well-being.
Beyond the PM-KISAN fund release, PM Modi will unveil several initiatives aimed at bolstering Bihar’s agricultural, dairy, and rural economy.
The government has raised the loan limit under the Kisan Credit Card scheme from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, ensuring greater financial access for farmers.
In a push for the dairy industry, the government will establish a new dairy plant in Barauni with an investment of Rs 113.27 crore.
The facility will process two lakh litres of milk per day, boosting dairy production and processing in the region.
As part of efforts to enhance cattle breeding and dairy productivity, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Motihari Regional Centre of Excellence (CoE) under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, established with an investment of Rs 33.80 crore.
Marking another milestone, the Prime Minister will launch the 10,000th Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) to strengthen collective farming efforts and provide better market access.
Since the launch of the Rs 6,865 crore FPO scheme in 2020, Rs 254.4 crore in equity grants has been released to 4,761 FPOs, while Rs 453 crore in credit guarantees has been issued to 1,900 FPOs.
Beyond agricultural initiatives, PM Modi will unveil key infrastructure projects in Bihar.
The Rs 526 crore Warisaliganj-Nawada-Tilaiya Rail Doubling Project will enhance regional rail connectivity, while the Rs 47 crore Ismailpur-Rafiganj road-over-bridge will likely reduce traffic congestion and improve transportation.
These efforts reflect the government’s continued focus on empowering farmers, advancing dairy and cattle farming, and strengthening Bihar’s infrastructure.
With financial support, modern agricultural reforms, and improved connectivity, the Centre remains committed to driving rural and economic development across the country.
