PM Narendra Modi on Sunday hailed senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan after the NDA announced him as its candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election.
Calling him a leader of humility, intellect, and grassroots connect, the Prime Minister said Radhakrishnan had consistently worked for community service and empowerment of the marginalised.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “In his long years in public life, Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji has distinguished himself with his dedication, humility and intellect. During the various positions he has held, he has always focused on community service and empowering the marginalised. He has done extensive work at the grassroots in Tamil Nadu. I am glad that the NDA family has decided to nominate him as the Vice Presidential candidate of our alliance.”
The Prime Minister underscored Radhakrishnan’s administrative and legislative expertise.
He noted that as a two-time MP from Coimbatore, Radhakrishnan made incisive parliamentary interventions, while as governor, he focused on addressing citizens’ challenges.
PM Modi added that his vast knowledge of legislative and constitutional matters would make him an ‘inspiring Vice President’.
If elected, Radhakrishnan will become the second OBC leader to hold the office of Vice President.
Responding to the announcement, Radhakrishnan expressed deep gratitude to the NDA leadership, including PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, and allies like Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.
“I am moved and touched beyond words for the confidence they have in me and giving me the opportunity to serve the Nation. I assure to work hard for the Nation until my last breath. Jai Hind!” he posted on X.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Radhakrishnan, describing him as an experienced parliamentarian and administrator whose wisdom would enhance the prestige of the Rajya Sabha.
Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu called him a ‘senior statesman’ and pledged TDP’s full support, while Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said his nomination brought ‘immense pride’ to the state.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal also extended their wishes.
NDA sources expressed confidence that Radhakrishnan’s candidature will receive wide political support, as the Vice-Presidential election takes place early next month.
