On the occasion of National Doctor’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered warm wishes to the nation’s doctors, lauding their unwavering service, skill, and compassion.
In a post on X, he said, “Best wishes to all hardworking doctors on #DoctorsDay. Our doctors have made a mark for their dexterity and diligence. Equally notable is their spirit of compassion. They are truly protectors of health and pillars of humanity.”
Modi emphasised the pivotal role doctors play in strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure and highlighted their dedication to public service.
Observed annually on 1st July, National Doctor’s Day commemorates the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy—an eminent physician, freedom fighter, and former Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Meanwhile, the Government of India instituted the day in 1991 to recognise the vital work of medical professionals across the country.
It honours Dr Roy, who received the Bharat Ratna in 1961 for his significant contributions to Indian medicine and public administration.
In his 123rd episode of Mann Ki Baat aired on Sunday, PM Modi had already drawn attention to the importance of 1st July, calling it a day to honour two vital pillars of society—doctors and chartered accountants.
“Doctors are the protectors of our health, and CAs are the guides of our economic life,” he said.
Adding to the tributes, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared a message on X, stating, “Warm greetings on #NationalDoctorsDay. They are the forces of humanity who salvage lives and shield our well-being through their dedication. Salute to all the doctors for their tireless services. May this day deepen their devotion to the vital role they play.”
HM Shah described doctors as the forces of humanity who safeguard health with tireless dedication, reinforcing their vital role in public welfare.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda also extended greetings to the medical community.
In a statement, he noted, “On National Doctor’s Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all doctors for their selfless service to humanity. Their round-the-clock dedication brings hope and saves countless lives every single day.”
He further added that doctor’s courage and resilience in the face of every health crisis—from routine emergencies to pandemics—underscore their status as true national heroes.
Nadda also expressed gratitude to all healthcare workers whose combined efforts contribute to building a ‘Swasth Bharat’.
National Doctors’ Day serves as a reminder of the deep respect and gratitude owed to India’s medical professionals.
The Prime Minister’s words, coupled with those of the Health Minister, reaffirm the government’s commitment to supporting the medical fraternity and investing in robust healthcare infrastructure to meet the nation’s growing needs.
