PM Modi Felicitates Javelin Star Neeraj Chopra

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra and his wife Himani Mor at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Tuesday. The Prime Minister engaged in a lively discussion with the javelin ace on sports, training, and broader issues, sharing glimpses of the interaction with the nation through social media.

“Met Neeraj Chopra and his wife, Himani Mor, at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, earlier today. We had a great interaction on various issues, including sports, of course!” PM Modi posted on X, capturing public attention.

Neeraj Chopra, commissioned as a junior officer in the Indian Army in 2016 with the Rajputana Rifles, earned the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army this October, conferred by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

The recognition complements his series of prestigious awards, including the Padma Shri, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal, acknowledging his exceptional contribution to Indian sports and national service.

Gold, Glory & National Pride

Chopra’s achievements in athletics have rewritten Indian track-and-field history. He became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin at Tokyo 2020, followed by a gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and a silver at the Paris Olympics 2024.

In April 2025, President Droupadi Murmu awarded him an honorary commission in the Territorial Army for his outstanding achievements.

In the 2025 season alone, Chopra won four major competitions, including the Paris Diamond League and the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru, cementing his dominance in the sport.

He also made history by surpassing the 90-metre barrier at an international meet in May, throwing a record 90.23m at the Doha Diamond League, surpassing his previous national record of 89.94m set in 2022.

PM Modi lauded Chopra’s achievement, calling it a moment of national pride. “A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw.

This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

The Prime Minister’s meeting highlights Chopra’s dual role as an elite athlete and an Indian Army officer, reflecting his unwavering dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

By celebrating Chopra’s feats, PM Modi reinforced the values of perseverance, national pride, and the pursuit of sporting excellence that inspire millions across India.
