PM Modi Extends Warm Wishes To Rajinikanth As The Superstar Turns 75

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday sent heartfelt birthday greetings to cinema legend Rajinikanth as the actor marked his 75th birthday.

The Prime Minister praised the veteran star for inspiring audiences across generations through a wide spectrum of memorable performances.

In a message posted on X, he wrote that Rajinikanth’s extensive body of work has consistently set industry benchmarks and continues to attract admiration from fans worldwide. He also highlighted that this year marks Rajinikanth’s 50th year in films, wishing him good health and a long life.

Born on 12 December 1950 in Bengaluru, Rajinikanth, originally named Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, worked as a bus conductor before pursuing acting. He nurtured his passion for performance through stage plays, eventually securing an opportunity in the Tamil film industry.

He debuted in Apoorva Raagangal (1975), a film that received multiple National Awards. Early projects such as Moondru Mudichu, Mullum Malarum, and Baalu Jenu showcased his versatility and gradually shaped his rising stardom.

Rise to National & Global Fame

By the 1980s, Rajinikanth’s unmistakable style, marked by charismatic dialogue delivery, cigarette flips and magnetic screen presence, turned him into one of India’s most celebrated stars. Films including Billa (1980), Moondru Mugam (1982) and Padikkadavan (1985) firmly established him as a household name.

His influence reached its peak in the 1990s with blockbusters like Annamalai, Baashha, Muthu and Padayappa. Muthu even achieved extraordinary success in Japan, expanding his global fan base.

After experimenting with roles in the early 2000s, Rajinikanth returned stronger with Chandramukhi (2005), a massive commercial success.

He later starred in Sivaji (2007), the pioneering sci-fi blockbuster Enthiran (2010), and its sequel 2.0 (2018), reinforcing his status as one of Asia’s biggest entertainers.

His achievements have earned him some of India’s highest honours, including the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Despite his towering fame, Rajinikanth remains admired for his humility and spiritual outlook.

As fans across the world celebrate his milestone birthday, Rajinikanth continues to stand as a cultural force whose legacy transcends cinema.
