On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Odisha on the occasion of Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti, expressing hope for unity and prosperity in the year ahead.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Warm greetings on the sacred occasion of Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti. This special occasion reflects the values of devotion, harmony and seasonal renewal. It reflects the rich traditions of Odisha.”
“I pray for a year that is filled with unlimited opportunities and successes. May this auspicious day bring peace, happiness and prosperity to all. May this festival also deepen the spirit of togetherness and strengthen the bonds that bind our society,” the post further read.
The festival marks the traditional Odia New Year and is observed annually on 14 April. It signifies the beginning of the solar calendar and is celebrated with customary drinks, rituals, and family gatherings across the state.
Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti is associated with the arrival of summer and reflects agricultural traditions, spiritual practices and community unity. The festival also coincides with Hanuman Jayanti in the state.
