PM Modi Extends Birthday Wishes To Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt birthday wishes to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday, expressing his hope for Mann’s good health and longevity.

Sharing a message on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “Best wishes to Punjab CM Shri Bhagwant Mann Ji on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life.”

The post quickly gathered thousands of likes and shares, with several political leaders joining in to convey their greetings to the Punjab leader.

Born in 1973 in Satoj village, Sangrur district, Bhagwant Mann hails from a family of schoolteachers. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Shaheed Udham Singh Government College in 1992.

From a young age, Mann demonstrated a flair for entertainment, releasing his first audio cassette at the age of 18, which struck a chord with Punjabi audiences.

Rise to Fame as a Comedian

Mann’s journey to fame began through his popular television programmes Jugnu Kehnda Hai and Jugnu Mast Mast, which showcased his sharp wit and social satire.

In 2008, he became a household name after appearing in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge on Star Plus, gaining nationwide recognition. He also starred in the National Award-winning Punjabi film Main Maa Punjab Dee, cementing his place in the regional entertainment industry.

At the height of his comedy career, Bhagwant Mann further entered politics by joining the People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), led by Manpreet Singh Badal.

In 2012, he contested his first assembly election from the Lehra constituency in Sangrur against former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.

After the PPP merged with the Congress, Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal.

Moreover, his political breakthrough came in 2014 when he won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, defeating senior Akali Dal leader SS Dhindsa.

Political Growth and Challenges

By 2017, Mann had become one of AAP’s most recognisable figures in Punjab.

However, in 2018, he resigned as AAP’s state president following Arvind Kejriwal’s apology to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a defamation case—a move that Mann had openly criticised. He was reinstated a year later.

In 2019, Mann retained his Lok Sabha seat and remained AAP’s sole MP from Punjab.

That same year, he publicly vowed to give up alcohol after critics accused him of misconduct in Parliament — a move that drew widespread praise across political circles.

Bhagwant Mann took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 16 March 2022, following AAP’s sweeping victory in the state elections. Contesting from the Dhuri Assembly seat, he won by a margin of over 58,000 votes.

His tenure has since focused on governance reforms, agricultural welfare, and anti-corruption measures.

PM Modi’s message highlights a moment of cordiality amid political differences, acknowledging the personal milestone of a leader whose journey from comedy stages to the political forefront continues to inspire millions.
