PM Modi Expresses Condolences For Almora Bus Accident Victims; Announces Financial Aid

On Monday, PM Narendra Modi extended his condolences to the families of the 36 victims who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident in Almora, Uttarakhand.

The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also declared financial assistance, offering Rs 4 lakh to the families of the victims and Rs 1 lakh to the injured.

The Chief Minister has ordered an inquiry into the incident and suspended the Regional Transport Officials (RTO) in the area.

The accident occurred when a bus, carrying more than 40 passengers, plunged into a 200-meter-deep gorge near Marchula.

The vehicle was en route from Pauri to Ramnagar when the driver lost control near Kupel village, resulting in the deadly crash.

Local residents were the first to respond to the scene, initiating rescue efforts before state teams arrived.

Police, fire, and SDRF teams are actively carrying out rescue operations, transporting severely injured passengers to hospitals and preparing for airlifts if necessary.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the accident, which may have involved an overloaded bus.
