PM Modi Explains How Street Vendors’ Struggles Shaped PM SVANidhi Scheme

Prime Minister Modi on Tuesday said his understanding of street vendors shaped the thinking behind the PM SVANidhi scheme.

PM Modi recalled the financial hardships faced by vendors and small cart owners dependent on informal lenders.

Addressing a public meeting in Navsari, the Prime Minister said people often asked how such schemes emerged.

PM Modi described how vendors borrowed money each morning to purchase wholesale stock. A vendor might receive Rs 900 but repay Rs 1,000 by evening.

PM Modi said this cycle left many families struggling to afford even a basic meal.

The Prime Minister said the government introduced institutional credit without guarantees, alongside bank accounts and digital payment facilities. He said timely repayment could unlock larger loans.

PM Modi noted that vendors who began with Rs 15,000 could later receive Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 after repaying their loans properly.

The Prime Minister said this progression could help families build more stable businesses. Vendors who once purchased goods daily could now stock supplies for a week.

PM Modi said seemingly small schemes could transform the lives of vulnerable households. He compared this impact with a labourer receiving water while working outdoors during intense summer heat.

The Prime Minister urged BJP workers in Navsari to ensure that no eligible street vendor remained excluded from PM SVANidhi.

PM Modi said grassroots outreach should cover every deserving cart and stall owner.
