On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with Lakhpati Didis in Gujarat’s Navsari district, marking International Women’s Day.
He was joined by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil.
The Lakhpati Didi initiative supports women in self-help groups (SHGs) who achieve a sustainable household income of at least Rs 1 lakh annually, ensuring financial stability over multiple agricultural seasons or business cycles.
The program integrates efforts from government ministries, private sector players, and market stakeholders to create diverse livelihood opportunities.
During the event, PM Modi felicitated five Lakhpati Didis with certificates and addressed the gathering.
The Prime Minister also launched two key Gujarat government schemes – G-SAFAL and G-MAITRI – aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods.
G-MAITRI focuses on financial and mentoring support for startups that promote rural economic growth. G-SAFAL however provides funding and entrepreneurial training to SHG women from Antyodaya families in targeted districts and blocks across Gujarat.
Recognizing the contributions of women on International Women’s Day, PM Modi paid tribute to ‘Nari Shakti.’
The Prime Minister also announced that his social media platforms would be taken over by women from various fields to highlight their achievements.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our Government has always worked for empowering women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media properties will be taken over by women who are making a mark in diverse fields!”
