PM Modi Embarks On Two-Day Malaysia Visit To Boost Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday embarked on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, expressing confidence that the trip will further strengthen defence, security, economic, and innovation cooperation between the two countries.

The visit comes at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and marks PM Modi’s third visit to the Southeast Asian nation.

This is also his first visit since India and Malaysia elevated their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024, reflecting the growing depth and breadth of relations between the two countries.

In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted the steady progress in India-Malaysia relations, rooted in historical and civilisational ties. He said he looked forward to discussions with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to further enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Prime Minister emphasised that the visit aims to deepen defence and security ties, strengthen economic and innovation partnerships, and expand cooperation into new and emerging domains.

Bilateral talks will cover key sectors including trade, investment, maritime cooperation, digital and financial technology, energy, healthcare, and education.

PM Modi said he looks forward to meeting the Indian diaspora in Malaysia, calling it a vital bridge between the two nations.

The Prime Minister will also engage with business leaders, while the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum will highlight economic cooperation during the visit.

The MEA stated that the visit provides an opportunity for both leaders to review the entire spectrum of bilateral cooperation and chart a future path for mutually beneficial engagement, further reinforcing the growing and multi-faceted India-Malaysia
