Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all state governments to act decisively against individuals involved in hoarding and illegal sale of LPG cylinders. He said such activities must be dealt with strictly during the ongoing global energy concerns.
The advisory follows a noticeable rise in incidents of LPG hoarding and black market operations across several regions. These cases have emerged amid uncertainty linked to the situation in West Asia.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said enforcement drives have intensified in recent days. Nearly 3,500 inspections have been conducted, resulting in the confiscation of more than 1,200 cylinders in Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi said, “When such crises arise, some elements also try to take undue advantage. Therefore, all agencies responsible for maintaining law and order have been put on alert. Be it coastal security, border security, cyber security, or strategic installations — security of all is being further strengthened.”
The Prime Minister said the current global situation could continue for some time. He urged citizens to stay prepared and united, recalling how the country responded collectively during the COVID-19.
He added that patience and discipline will be essential in dealing with ongoing challenges.
PM Modi warned, “We must also be very cautious and alert. Those who seek to take advantage of the situation will try to spread lies. Such efforts must not be allowed to succeed.”
The Prime Minister appealed to state administrations to remain watchful. He stressed the importance of monitoring those involved in hoarding and black market activities.
He said swift action should follow any complaints to prevent further violations.
PM Modi underlined that joint efforts by governments and citizens are crucial. He said coordinated action will enable the country to overcome the present challenges effectively.
