Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi after he won the silver medal in the men’s 65kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, adding another medal to India’s growing tally.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Another medal for India in Weightlifting! Congrats to Raja Muthupandi on winning a Silver in the Men’s 65 kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. His success makes every Indian happy and proud. My best wishes for his upcoming endeavours.”

The Tamil Nadu lifter secured second place with a combined lift of 286kg, lifting 126kg in the snatch and 160kg in the clean and jerk.
Malaysia’s Aznil Bidin claimed the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record lift of 299kg.
Raja’s medal capped a memorable day for India’s weightlifting team.
Earlier, Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won silver in the men’s 60kg category with a personal best, while Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu claimed gold in the women’s 48kg event.
Mirabai’s victory marked her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold and the fourth CWG medal of her career.
PM Modi praised her consistency, describing her as an inspiration for the nation and congratulating her on another outstanding performance.
The Prime Minister also lauded Rishikanta Singh for winning silver and achieving a personal best, saying his determination and performance had brought immense pride to the country and would inspire young athletes.
With Mirabai’s gold and silver medals from Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi, India finished the day with four medals at the Games, comprising one gold, two silver and one bronze, as the weightlifting team emerged as one of the country’s standout performers in Glasgow.
