Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team on winning the Women’s Asia Cup, calling the achievement a ‘proud moment’ for Indian cricket. He praised the team’s confidence, consistency and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the players displayed remarkable spirit and expressed hope that their triumph would inspire millions of youngsters across the country to take up sport and excel.

India secured a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final on Sunday. The victory helped India avenge its defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final.
India posted 183/5 after Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana produced a record 129-run opening partnership.
Shafali struck 68 off 39 balls, including the fastest half-century in the tournament’s history, reaching the milestone in just 24 deliveries. Mandhana contributed a composed 59 off 39 balls.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 14, while Richa Ghosh added 17. G Kamalini, playing her first match of the tournament, provided a late boost with a quick 15 off five balls.
Sri Lanka struggled to chase the target as India’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Shree Charani claimed four wickets, while Deepti Sharma took three as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111.
Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 36, while Nilakshika Silva made 22.
India’s victory marked its sixth win over Sri Lanka in Women’s Asia Cup finals, further underlining the team’s dominance in the competition.
India 183/5 (Shafali Verma 68, Smriti Mandhana 59) beat Sri Lanka 111 all out (Chamari Athapaththu 36, Nilakshika Silva 22; Shree Charani 4/20, Deepti Sharma 3/19) by 72 runs.
