PM Modi Congratulates Indian Team For 19-Medal Haul At Asian U20 Athletics Championships

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised the Indian U20 athletics contingent for their outstanding performance at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships, where the team secured a total of 19 medals, including 10 gold, five silver and four bronze, finishing second in the overall standings.

PM Modi described the performance as a reflection of the determination, discipline and excellence of India’s emerging athletes, and expressed hope that such achievements would inspire more young people across the country to take up sports seriously.

Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi posted, “Congratulations to the Indian contingent at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships for winning 19 medals, including 10 Golds. This outstanding performance reflects the determination and excellence of India’s young athletes. May these achievements inspire many more young Indians to pursue sports in the years to come.”

India’s campaign ended on a high note with multiple strong performances on the final day.

Muskan won the women’s 5000m in 16:53.08, while Nishchay claimed silver in the men’s discus throw with a national U20 record of 60.10m.

Mogali Venkatram Reddy took gold in the men’s 800m in 1:48.27, and Neeru Pathak anchored the women’s 4x400m relay team to gold.

The women’s 4x400m relay quartet of Bhumika Sanjay Nehate, Tahura Khatun, Sehnoor Bawa and Neeru Pathak set a new meet record of 3:38.07, breaking Japan’s 2018 mark.

The men’s 4x400m team finished third in 3:05.54, while the women’s 4x100m relay team won silver in 45.05 seconds.

Overall, India’s performance highlighted its growing strength in junior athletics at the continental level.
