Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his wishes to the nation on the third day of Shardiya Navratri, which is devoted to Goddess Chandraghanta, and prayed for the well-being and prosperity of all citizens.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “The third day of Navratri is dedicated to the worship of Mother Chandraghanta, the symbol of peace, courage, and fearlessness. May the blessings of Devi Ma infuse positivity into everyone’s life.”
“May her grace bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune to my family members across the country,” the post further added.
The Prime Minister also shared a devotional hymn in honour of Goddess Chandraghanta.
In addition, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath greeted people on the occasion.
Posting a verse on X, he posted, “On the third day of the sacred festival of Shardiya Navratri, dedicated to the worship of Mother Durga, the universal mother, may Mother Chandraghanta grant courage and peace to her devotees and free them from all troubles.”
Across the country, devotees flocked to temples in large numbers, with many beginning their prayers early in the morning.
On this day, Goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of Mata Chandraghanta. She is portrayed with ten arms carrying weapons, a lotus, and showing the blessing gesture (Abhaya Mudra).
Revered for her calm yet powerful presence, she is, however, believed to grant peace, bravery, and success to her followers.
The crescent moon on her forehead gives her the name Chandraghanta. Devotees believe she removes obstacles and strengthens the spirit.
Navratri, meaning ‘nine nights’ in Sanskrit, is observed to honour Goddess Durga and her nine forms, collectively called Navdurga.
The festival is, however, marked with devotion across India, with prayers and rituals dedicated to each form of the Goddess.
